It looks like Empire is the little show that could. Empire doesn’t care about any of your records. It’s just gonna smash them.
We thought Empire had promise when it tied with How to Get Away with Murder for most watched premiere of the 2014-2015 season. We thought it did something great when it improved its ratings in its second week. We thought it revolutionized the game when it continued to improve its rating in its third week. But it is now week five and the ratings have consistently improved. That’s that mythical slay. Empire is writing the rules to the game.
Empire has broken a 23 year record when it comes to ratings. And that’s only as far as it can be calculated, due to the Nielsen revisions to their system. Don’t let anyone tell you that there’s no room for Black people on television.
I just wish it didn’t go against Black-ish. If you watch one, please DVR the other. Don’t underestimate the power of the DVR. They factor into ratings, too.
