Empire raked in the views last night. It pulled 9.9 million viewers and a 3.8 rating among adults 18-49. This makes it the biggest launch of the season. It’s also the biggest launch FOX has had in three years, beating the likes of Gotham and Sleepy Hollow.
Empire‘s ratings rivaled those of How to Get Away with Murder‘s premiere. In the key demographic, it was the top show of Wednesday night, beating out its lead-in, American Idol.
The reviews of Empire might be lukewarm, but the numbers tell all. Whether you loved it or hated it, you tuned in. We will see how these numbers hold up over the season. Fox might have a bonafide hit. Let’s just hope it doesn’t negatively affect Black-ish, though, who it’s up against.
