Producer Kevin Feige spoke on it saying,

We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family. The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct Black Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.

Black Panther isn’t due until 2018, but Chadwick Boseman is due to make his first appearance as T’Challa in Captain America: Civil War which opens in theaters May 6, 2016. Check him out in the Civil War trailer.

The Perfect Guy opened this week, and it grabbed the Number One spot at the Box Office. The Perfect Guy took in $26.7 million over the weekend.

War Room fell to third place, taking in $7.4 million over the weekend. Straight Outta Compton placed sixth, taking in $3.9 million over the weekend.

More importantly, this has been the fifth week in a row that a film with predominantly Black cast has been Number One at the Box Office. Never let anyone tell you that there’s not a market for Black films.

Once again, War Room and Straight Outta Compton took the top two spots at the Box Office, except this time they traded spots.

War Room took the top spot with $9.3 million. It’s a late bloomer, but it got the job done. Straight Outta Compton took the second spot with $8.7 million. They both beat out new films A Walk in the Woods and The Transporter Refueled.

With The Perfect Guy being released this weekend, we’ll have three films in theater, four if you count the rerelease of Dope.

How often does it happen that two films with Black casts occupy the top two spots at the Box Office? Well, it happened this weekend with Straight Outta Compton and War Room.

Straight Outta Compton took the Number One spot with $13.2 million at the Box Office, bringing its total to $134.1 million. This is the third consecutive week that the film has held the Number One spot. It is the only film besides Jurassic World to do so this summer.

The competition for the top spot was close as War Room was right on its heels, even tying it on Friday. The Christian film took in $11 million, beating out films such as We Are Your Friends and No Escape. War Room took in over six times the amount as the Zac Efron-led We Are Your Friends despite being released on less than half the amount of screens.

Straight Outta Compton has once again taken the Number One spot at the box office, making it two weekends a row. It beat out new releases, Sinister 2, Hitman: Agent 47, and American Ultra, taking in more than the three films combined.

Straight Outta Compton took in $26.8 million this weekend, crossing the $100 million mark. It’s total now stands at $111 million. Not too shabby.

Straight Outta Compton has claimed the top spot at the box office this weekend. It took in $60.2 million over the weekend, beating out The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the other wide release this weekend, as well as previously released films, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Fantastic Four.

Straight Outta Compton’s opening is the fifth best August opening of all time, wrenching the spot away from Signs.

Who says Black films can’t make money? I hope this serves as a catalyst for Hollywood to put more support into Black films.

With everyone getting a biopic, it’s no surprise that Aretha Franklin is getting one. Jennifer Hudson will be portraying the iconic singer, chronicling her rise to fame.

According to Tracking Board

The [film], which is currently untitled, will see Hudson portraying Franklin in her transition from gospel singer to mainstream artist in the early sixties to mid-seventies.

The film will also explore the Queen of Soul’s interpersonal relationships, most notably how her abusive husband and autocratic father helped inspire and shape her epochal music during that time.

Hudson has won an Academy Award for role in Dreamgirls, so maybe she will bring that type of performance to this project. At the very least it will be interesting to see her cover Aretha Franklin’s songs. We’ll see how this develops, if it’ll come to fruition.

Mufasa may be dead, but his spirit never strays too far from Pride Rock. James Earl Jones will be reprising his iconic role as belated king Mufasa in The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, a sequel to The Lion King series. He will be joining Gabrielle Union, who’s voicing Nala. Other cast members include Diamond White as the cheetah Fuli and Dusan Brown as the hippo Beshte.

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar will air as a Disney Channel film then be followed by a series on Disney Junior. Simba and Nala’s son, Kion.

Wesley Snipes was at Comic Con promoting his new show, The Player, and he discussed the possibility of him returning to the Blade franchise under the Marvel Cinematic Universe umbrella. Here’s what he told to Deadline.

The project [Blade] is controlled by Marvel and we did have a really productive and a wonderful meeting and we discussed a number of things. I don’t know where it’s on their schedule at this point, that hasn’t been decided. I guess it’s still up in the air.

When asked if Blade 4 was out the question, would he be interesting in being involved in the MCU in another way, he said:

That’s a possibility too. I’ve always been a fan of these pieces and adaptations and I’d be nice to be a part of the family again. But if we don’t to a Blade 4 or something else with Marvel, we’ll do something else. We have some other characters and some other concepts that are going to be just as exciting and hopefully just as successful.

Personally, I would love to see Wesley Snipes involved in an MCU film, whether it’s Blade or another film. Marvel will probably be looking for someone younger, but hey, Robert Downey, Jr. is 50. So, we’ll see. What are your thoughts? Would you like to see Snipes in another Blade film?
