Ride Along ended up being a big hit in 2014, so there’s no surprise Hollywood wanted more. And now we have Ride Along 2, for better or worse. Ride Along was okay enough, so let’s hope Ride Along 2 can at least maintain the level of its predecessor. I know most people are pretty much tired of Kevin, but it looks like we’ll just have to ride it out.

Synopsis:

As his wedding day approaches, Ben heads to Miami with his soon-to-be brother-in-law James to bring down a drug dealer who’s supplying the dealers of Atlanta with product.

Barbershop: The Next Cut

It’s been over a decade since the last Barbershop film was released, but it’s time to jump back in the chair with Barbershop: The Next Cut. Some new faces join the regulars, and the film is helmed by Malcolm D. Lee. Is another visit in the chair what we need, or has the time passed. Check out the trailer below and share your thoughts.

Synopsis:

It’s been more than 10 years since our last appointment at Calvin’s Barbershop. Calvin and his longtime crew are still there, but the shop has undergone some major changes. Most noticeably, our once male-dominated sanctuary is now co-ed. The ladies bring their own flavor, drama, and gossip to the shop challenging the fellas at every turn. Despite the good times and camaraderie within the shop, the surrounding community has taken a turn for the worse, forcing Calvin and our crew to come together not only to save the shop, but their neighborhood.

It seems to be the era of biopics, with films about everyone from activists to actors to musicians. Another one is coming out, this time about the hip-hop group N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton explores the rise and fall of the legendary group. Take a look at the trailer and explore the controversial journey of the group.

Synopsis:

In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Boyz n the Hood

Let’s throw it back to the classic, Boyz n the HoodBoyz n the Hood is a critically acclaimed film released in 1991. It’s the story about a boy with a dream, a dream to make it out of the hood. It earned director John Singleton several accolades and jumpstarted the acting careers of Ice Cube and Morris Chestnut.

Synopsis:

Boyz n the Hood is the critically acclaimed story of three friends growing up in a South Central Los Angeles neighborhood. It is a place where harmony co-exists with adversity, especially for three young men growing up there: Doughboy, an unambitious drug dealer; his brother Ricky, a college-bound teenage father; and Ricky’s best friend Tre, who aspires to a brighter future beyond “The Hood.” In a world where a trip to the store can end in death, the friends have diverse reactions to their bleak surroundings. Tre’s resolve is strengthened by a strong father who keeps him on the right track. But the lessons Tre learns are put to the ultimate test when tragedy strikes close to home, and violence seems the only recourse.
