It may be a week behind everything else, but Sleepy Hollow is back. Season Two saw some tense moments for Abbie and Ichabod. Season Two went bigger. Sometimes it succeeded and sometimes not so much. Rosewood is the latest medical procedural meets cop procedural, this one coming from FOX. With Morris Chestnut and Lorraine Toussaint, I’m already sold. Check out the synopsis and see if it’s something you’d like. It will be paired with Empire, so you may find your Wednesday night schedules set.

Synopsis:

Set against the vibrant backdrop of one of the world’s hottest cities – Miami – new medical procedural from executive producer Todd Harthan , Rosewood is the story of Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, Jr., the city’s top private pathologist. Brilliant, cool with tons of charisma, Rosewood teams up with the tough-as-nails Detective Annalise Villa to uncover clues no one else sees and help the Miami PD solve the city’s most challenging cases. While she’s impressed by his incredible abilities, his constant optimism is more annoying than it is infectious. But somehow, week-to-week, this unlikely tag team will solve many crimes together.

Joining Rosewood in his practice are his sister and “toxicology queen,” Pippy and DNA specialist Tara Milly Izikoff aka TMI, who is Pippy’s fiancée. Rosewood’s mom, Donna, is on the cusp of some major life changes that will affect her children profoundly. A matriarch with a lot of strong opinions, Shirley holds family gatherings sacred and makes Rosewood’s love life a regular topic of conversation. Rounding out the cast is Miami PD’s Captain Ira Hornstock who is a great team leader but is terrible at managing his own life. Hornstock and Rosewood have a complicated relationship: while he can’t stand Rosewood’s big personality and sunny disposition, he acknowledges Rosewood’s stellar contributions to the department.

Plagued with his own set of medical ailments, Rosewood believes that every moment of life, no matter how small, should be embraced and lived to the fullest. This heightened awareness allows him to see details on bodies that others cannot. But what drives him most are the victims who are stripped of life’s moments.

Empire is a week away, and now is a good time for a quick refresher course so you’ll be ready. The first season only had twelve episodes, but it was packed with a lot of stuff. Season Two seems to be just as packed, especially with the celebrity guest stars. Get caught up, and then take a peak at Season Two.

• Lucious Lyon had ALS and then all of a sudden didn’t.
• Lucious ran Empire Entertainment and was getting ready for one of his kids to take over the company, namely his youngest son, Hakeem.
• Lucious did not want his middle son, Jamal, to take over Empire because he was gay, but he ended passing the reins to Jamal anyway.
• Jamal came out to the public by remixing one of his father’s old songs and performing it at a white party.
• Jamal randomly bursts out into song at times.
• Jamal has a daughter from a fling that no one tests for paternity who ends up being Lucious’s daughter.
• Andre, the oldest son,  is bipolar.
• Nothing Andre does pleases his father.
• Everyone is musically talented except Andre.
• Andre got psychiatric help, culminating with Jennifer Hudson singing away his bipolar disorder. Loudly.
• Hakeem has a new girlfriend almost every episode, ranging from his age to more than twice his age.
• Hakeem has mommy issues.
• Hakeem is beaten by a broom.
• Hakeem sleeps with his almost stepmother.
• Cookie is a ride or die.
• Cookie has spent almost two decades in prison for Lucious.
• Cookie made sure to grab her a piece of Empire.
• Cookie had a tryst with Lucious.
• Cookie had a tryst with Derek Luke.
• Cookie beat Anika’s (the aforementioned almost stepmother) butt.
• Cookie, Anika, Andre, and Hakeem are planning a hostile takeover of Empire.

Synopsis:

Based on the international blockbuster film by executive producer Steven Spielberg and the first of his films to be adapted for television, Minority Report follows the unlikely partnership between a man haunted by the future and a cop haunted by her past, as they race to stop the worst crimes of the year 2065 before they happen.

Set in Washington, D.C., it is 10 years after the demise of Precrime, a law enforcement agency tasked with identifying and eliminating criminals…before their crimes were committed. To carry out this brand of justice, the agency used three precogs – “precognitives” Dash, Arthur and Agatha – who were able to see the future. Now, in 2065, crime-solving is different, and justice leans more on sophisticated and trusted technology than on the instincts of the precogs.

Precog DASH – driven by his terrifying, but fragmented visions – now has returned in secret to help a brash, but shrewd, police detective, LARA vega, attempt to stop the murders that he predicts.

As they navigate this future America, they will search for Dash’s missing twin brother, ARTHUR, and elude others who will stop at nothing to exploit their precog abilities. Also complicating matters is Dash and Arthur’s ingenious, but reclusive, foster sister, AGATHA, who just wants Dash to return home.

A drama of crime and conspiracy, this is a timeless story of connection: two lost souls, Dash and vega, who find friendship, purpose and redemption in each other.

A couple of updates. The networks are finalizing their fall schedule, and we got some news from FOX, both good and not so good.

Empire will be getting some extra episodes this season, bringing the episode count of Season 2 to 18. The season is expected to be split into two arcs a la the scripted dramas on ABC. Empire will keep its original timeslot of Wednesdays at 9/8c. We’ll see if it will continue to clash with Black-ish.

We already started off on a bad note with Sleepy Hollow with the news of Orlando Jones leaving. Things aren’t looking any better. Sleepy Hollow is moving to Thursdays at 9/8c to compete with ABC’s TGIT, and, more importantly, Scandal. The ratings weren’t so hot for Season 2, but now that the witch is dead (hopefully it sticks), and they’re getting a new showrunner, maybe they can change things around. It has too much potential to go out like this.

Empire‘s ratings rose again. Eight consecutive weeks of growth? How Sway? This must be the one show that both God and Lucifer like. It hit a 5.7 rating in the adults 18-49 demo last night. “Black actors aren’t marketable,” they said. “No one’s going to watch a show with a Black main cast,” they said. Well, when Empire says yes, nobody can say no.

Empire aired its seventh episode last night, and it posted its sixth consecutive week of growth. Not to mention it was tied for the highest debut of the TV season.

12.9 million total viewers watched last night’s episode, scoring a 5.1 rating. How long can they keep this up? Will they keep it up for the rest of the season? With only four more weeks left, it’s a real possibility.
