The Birth of a Nation has to one of the most talked about films of the year that isn’t a superhero film. Who wouldn’t want to see a film about Nat Turner, whether you’re tired of slave films or not? His narrative isn’t the typical one that Hollywood likes to peddle.

The Birth of a Nation made waves at Sundance, being released to critical acclaim. It set a record with its $17.5 million deal with Fox Searchlight for distribution rights. And now we’ve got the first trailer to this film and few photos.

Synopsis:

Set against the antebellum South, THE BIRTH OF A NATION follows Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner, accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. As he witnesses countless atrocities – against himself and his fellow slaves – Nat orchestrates an uprising in the hopes of leading his people to freedom.
