Straight Outta Compton

It seems to be the era of biopics, with films about everyone from activists to actors to musicians. Another one is coming out, this time about the hip-hop group N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton explores the rise and fall of the legendary group. Take a look at the trailer and explore the controversial journey of the group.

Synopsis:

In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.

As long as Bryan Singer and Halle Berry are attached to the X-Men films, we’ll never get a decent portrayal of Ororo Munroe AKA Storm. Alexandra Shipp may give a decent portrayal, but with Singer involved, I doubt it. But luckily, someone made his own Storm fan film. It covers pieces of her childhood and time spent in Wakanda. It gives Storm more characterization than the X-Men films ever did. Bryan Singer should give this a watch, so maybe he can get some ideas of what to do with Storm. Watch the film below.

Earlier tonight, Bryan Singer confirmed via Twitter that Alexandra Shipp has been casted as Ororo Munroe, also known as Storm in the upcoming film X-Men Apocalypse. Shipp is (in)famously known for her roles in Drumline: A New Beat and Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.

I think this is an interesting casting choice to say the least, but one could say the same about almost all of the casting for the X-Men film series. Let’s hope Shipp makes for a better Storm than Aaliyah. The good news for Shipp is that Halle Berry has set the bar pretty low. I wish they would’ve gotten someone darker for the role, but I guess we can’t win them all. Good luck to Ms. Shipp. I hope she can bring some lightning to the role (pun intended).

X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to be released May 27, 2016.
